Arguably the biggest change we have seen this summer is the transition from a heavily contoured base and matte finish, to a lighter, skin-like dewy look. Instead of trying to mask your complexion, enhance and embrace it. Bring out a healthy glow in your skin and you’re guaranteed to look instantly fresher and more youthful, Chloé models were seen nailing this trend on the SS17 catwalks.
The ‘Cara’ brow is creeping back onto the beauty scene, and although this is a look that not everyone can pull off - if you strike the perfect balance between outgrown and effortless, and still slightly in shape, then this trend can work really well to complete a laid back makeup vibe.
Still use product to add a little colour, but aim for a fluffier, more ‘undone’ finish by brushing the hairs upwards and securing with a clear, fixing product like the Eylure Tame and Define Wax for a soft, feathery effect. This was a popular look amongst Balmain models at fashion week.
Wispy, softer lashes are also favoured over denser designs at the minute, so be sure to go for a pair with a layered appearance as it provides a much more natural texture and dimension. Lilly Lashes in style ‘makeupbysamuel’ offer a lightweight design that gradually increases in length towards each outer edge for a delicate, fluttery finish.
Gloss over lipstick
To some people, the words ‘lip gloss’ may instantly force you to flash back to the disastrous, overly glossed lips many of us girls attempted to rock in our teen years.
However, don’t be put off we promise lip gloss can be your friend. If you choose the shade wisely (don’t pick a harsh, overly shimmery colour that your 15 year-old self may have gone for) instead select a subtle shade, or even go clear with a light dusting of highlighter underneath – this enhances your natural lip shape and colour, without being overpowering, drying or too bold. It is definitely the new go-to product for tying your everyday look together – take a look at Selena Gomez in her latest music video for ‘Fetish’ – she’s stripped back the bold colours and has gone for a flesh-toned glossy finish instead and it really does look amazing! If you’re an avid lipstick lover then opt for a satin finish instead of matte, for a natural, moisturised look.
Who doesn’t love glitter? It’s the perfect way to add something special to your look. Dramatic glitter-drenched lips were sported by the likes of supermodel Gigi Hadid on the Fendi runway, teamed with a heavy stroke of liquid eyeliner to create an ultra-cool cat-eye vibe; this bold look is one for the brave.
All things pink seem to have made a huge comeback lately, and we’re particularly fond of the blush pink trend seen in clothing and hair as well as beauty of course. Less is more at the minute, and a delicate rose-toned blush looks gorgeous on all skin shades as does a pastel pink lip. Matching your lip and cheek colour is the in thing right now, and looks effortlessly chic when a subtle pink or peach shade is chosen.
